Bishkek hosting International Festival of Traditional Culture and Crafts

Bishkek, July 29, 2022. /Kabar/. The 16th International Festival of Traditional Culture and Crafts Oimo started the day before in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek.

Every year, the festival in Bishkek brings craftsmen from sister republics - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan. The biggest delegation of artisans this year came from neighbouring Uzbekistan.

Citizens and foreign guests, artisans, designers, artists and representatives of creative industries are taking part in the fair.

The festival aims to preserve cultural heritage, revive the continuity of traditional knowledge, develop the craft market and creative industries based on cultural heritage, and turn Kyrgyzstan into an international territory of environmentally friendly cultural tourism.

Oimo is an international cultural festival that has been held in Kyrgyzstan since 2006. It traditionally opens in late July with a fair in Bishkek and continues in Cholpon-Ata, on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake.
