Former AUCA President Andrew Kuchins fined and to be expelled from Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, July 16, 2021. / Kabar /. Former President of the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) Andrew Kuchins has been fined and will be expelled from Kyrgyzstan. The corresponding decision was made by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.

Andrew Kuchins was charged under Articles 270, Part 2, Clause 3 (Smuggling of items for which special rules for moving across the customs border of the Kyrgyz Republic are established), 268 Part 2 (Illegal manufacture of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their analogues without purposes of sale) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and in the commission of an offense under Article 123 (Illegal manufacture of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances, their analogues and precursors without the purpose of selling in small amounts) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to the press service of the court, by the verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court, Andrew Kuchins was found not guilty of committing crimes under Art. 270 part 2 paragraph 3, 268 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and was acquitted due to the absence of corpus delicti in his actions.

However, the court found him guilty of committing a misdemeanor under Article 123 of the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on misconduct, and a penalty was imposed in the form of a fine in the amount of 60 thousand soms.

In accordance with Article 61 of the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on Misdemeanors, after the entry into force of the sentence and the execution of the sentence, Andrew Kuchins was expelled from Kyrgyzstan to the United States of America in the manner prescribed by international treaties and legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
