Kazakhstan’s wages the highest among Central Asia, data says

Kazakhstan ranks first among Central Asian countries in average wages, according to ranking.kz. The country’s average salary is nearly double that of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

According to the data, the average nominal salary in Kazakhstan was $817.2 as of September last year. This figure is nearly double that of Uzbekistan ($437.8) and Kyrgyzstan ($411.2). Tajikistan’s average wage of $242.8 is 3.4 times lower than in Kazakhstan.

Minimum wages are also higher in Kazakhstan, standing at $181.1 in 2023. In comparison, the minimum wage in Uzbekistan was $89.4, in Tajikistan $54.9, and in Kyrgyzstan just $28.3. The ratio of the minimum wage to the average salary in Kazakhstan was 21.8%, compared to 6.9% in Kyrgyzstan and 30.9% in Tajikistan.

Across Central Asian countries the financial sector has the highest salaries. In Kazakhstan, financial professionals earn more than $1,700, which is 3 times higher than in Tajikistan ($561.9). Other high-paying industries include mining in Kazakhstan and IT in Uzbekistan, while in Tajikistan processing and manufacturing industries offer competitive salaries. Conversely, the education, healthcare, agriculture, and utility sectors remain the lowest-paying across the region.

Earlier, Kazinform reported that wages and employment rates increased in one of the regions of Kazakhstan.
