Bishkek, Jan. 28, 2025. /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov in an interview to Kabar News Agency spoke about the conditions for settling the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and the fate of the houses located in a checkerboard pattern.
“The border issue has been practically solved. Bilateral work on paperwork is currently underway.
After this work is completed, the intergovernmental commissions will sign, and then the foreign ministers.
After all these procedures, the agreement will be ratified by the parliaments of the two countries.
Then we, the presidents of the two countries, will sign the document.
Then there will be an exchange of notes.
And only then, the demarcation work will be carried out another 1-2 years.
Only after this the process will be fully completed.
The most important thing is that we have reached a bilateral agreement.
Answering your question "in whose favor was the issue resolved?", I will say this: when resolving border disputes between two countries, it is impossible to take into account only unilateral interests.
A decision is made only when the interests of both parties are taken into account.
We have about a thousand kilometers of borders. In many areas there were disputed territories. In some cases, these areas were resolved equally.
In addition, we have border villages located like a chessboard, with houses mixed together. We have also settled this issue. Otherwise, border protection would create great inconvenience for both sides.
If there are houses belonging to citizens of Tajikistan on our side, the Tajik side will resettle them. If our houses are on their side, we will resettle our citizens. We will build houses for them in another place, taking into account the size of the land plots.
Thus, the issues were resolved taking into account every meter of land,” President Zhaparov said.
