Prospects for deepening Kyrgyz-Japanese partnership discussed in Bishkek

Bishkek, Jan. 30, 2025. /Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration Adylbek Kasymaliev held a meeting with Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan Hideki Goda on Wednesday.

The Cabinet of Ministers reported that during the meeting the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Kyrgyz-Japanese relations, paying special attention to issues of trade and economic cooperation and attracting investment.

Adylbek Kasymaliev noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to deepening and expanding cooperation with Japan based on the achieved level of comprehensive partnership relations between the countries.

Expressing gratitude for Japan's support within the framework of the JICA, JDS and the Kyrgyz-Japan Center for Human Development programs, the head of the Cabinet especially noted the successful implementation of the JICA One Village - One Product (OVOP) project, which received the status of a national economic project.

When discussing trade and economic relations, the importance of unlocking the existing potential for increasing trade turnover between the two countries was noted.

"One of the key areas of the policy is to attract and protect foreign investment in key sectors of the economy, such as energy, mining, agriculture, information technology and tourism," said Adylbek Kasymaliev.

He emphasized that the participation of Japanese investors in joint projects will increase the economic connectivity of Central Asia and strengthen trade ties with Japan.

Ambassador Hideki Goda briefed the head of the Cabinet of Ministers about the upcoming visit of Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Japan Akihisa Nagashima to Kyrgyzstan on February 3 to discuss prospects for the development of Kyrgyz-Japanese cooperation, as well as preparations for the first summit of the heads of state of the Dialogue "Central Asia + Japan".

In addition, he confirmed Japan's commitment to increasing cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and the countries of Central Asia.

At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the multifaceted Kyrgyz-Japanese partnership.
