Bishkek, April 7, 2026. /Kabar/. The Asian Wrestling Championship kicked off in Bishkek, bringing together the continent's strongest athletes. The first day of the tournament was dedicated to Greco-Roman wrestling matches, where the Kyrgyz team demonstrated strong results.

On the opening day, Ulan Muratbek uulu (55 kg), Avtandil Taalaibek uulu (63 kg), Akzhol Makhmudov (77 kg), Asan Zhanyshov (87 kg), and Roman Kim (130 kg) defended their country's honor.

Following the preliminary and semifinal matches, three Kyrgyzstanis secured a spot in the final. Avtandil Taalaibek uulu, Akzhol Makhmudov, and Asan Zhanyshov secured a series of confident victories and will compete for the championship's gold medal today.

Two more Kyrgyz wrestlers remain in contention for the top spots:

After disappointing defeat in the semifinals, Ulan Muratbek uulu will compete for bronze.

Roman Kim, who lost to an Iranian wrestler in the quarterfinals, earned the right to a repechage bout thanks to his opponent's advancement to the final. If successful, he will also compete for bronze.

The decisive final blocks and bouts for third place will take place today, April 7.
