Avignon Off Festival: Kyrgyzstan expands cultural cooperation with France

Bishkek, July 16, 2026 /Kabar/. As part of the Avignon Off festival, taking place in the French city of Avignon, Kyrgyz Ambassador to France, Sadyk Sher-Niyaz met city's mayor, Olivier Galzy.

During the meeting, the ambassador thanked the Mayor of Avignon for the warm welcome and emphasized the importance of further developing cultural cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and France.

The Kyrgyz side also extended an invitation to Olivier Galzy to participate in the Art-Ordo International Festival, which will be held in Bishkek in 2027, as well as the 6th World Nomad Games.

Furthermore, representatives of Kyrgyzstan expressed interest in participating in the Avignon In festival, the main program of the Avignon Festival. The parties discussed prospects for expanding cultural ties and developing cooperation in the field of theater.

The culture ministry noted that this is Kyrgyzstan's first participation in the Avignon Off festival. The country is represented by the Uchur State Youth Theater, which is presenting the play "Bugu Ene," based on the work of Kyrgyz national writer Chingiz Aitmatov, to an international audience.
