Batken and Sughd regions strengthen cross-border cooperation

Bishkek, July 21, 2026 /Kabar/. Mamyrzhan Rakhimov, Kyrgyzstan's Batken region governor and Rajob Akhmadzoda, Chairman of Sughd Region of Tajikistan held meeting in Guliston city.

According toBatken oblast administration, the meeting was attended by heads of law enforcement agencies of the two regions, as well as heads of border districts and cities.

During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, ensuring public safety in border areas, and developing interaction between the Batken and Sughd regions.

Meeting participants emphasized the importance of the work of the intergovernmental commission on delimitation of the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as the need to promptly resolve local issues based on mutual understanding.

Particular attention was paid to developing cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as youth, sports, and economic cooperation between the two regions.

The parties noted the stable development of trade and economic cooperation. From January to May 2026, foreign trade turnover between the Batken region and the Republic of Tajikistan exceeded USD 700,000.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the implementation of the Kyrgyz Agroholding project at the Kyzyl-Bel Road checkpoint. It was noted that this project will contribute to the creation of new jobs and take trade and economic cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to continue working together to strengthen friendly and good-neighborly relations between the Batken and Sughd regions.
