In 25 years, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has evolved from a regional cooperation mechanism to a major transregional platform uniting approximately 3.5 billion people. Andrei Mokhor, Director General of Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA) told at SCO Media and Analytical Centers Forum in Bishkek.
According to him, modern tools, technologies, and information platforms are necessary to deliver objective and reliable information to such a vast audience.
"The media plays a vital role in integration processes in Eurasian space. We inform citizens about the specifics of partner countries, joint projects, and economic transformations," Mokhor noted.
He emphasized that in today's rapidly changing world, the role of the media in objectively covering the international agenda is growing.
According to Mokhor, the SCO is often referred to as the "Shanghai Family" because it has become a platform uniting diverse cultures, traditions, and peoples. Therefore, the media's contribution to the widespread promotion of this heritage is invaluable.
He reported that Belarus is conducting practical work in this area and noted that the Days of National Culture of the SCO countries project is being implemented as part of the Slavianski Bazaar International Arts Festival.
He also spoke of the need to strengthen cooperation between the SCO countries in the media sphere, emphasizing the importance of such areas as information exchange, joint projects, the use of artificial intelligence technologies, and the fight against disinformation.
"Intelligent media integration is a strategic tool for creating a unified information space." "It brings together analytics, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence, helping to advance the SCO's sustainable development goals," emphasized Andrey Mokhor.
He added that think tanks and media outlets need to work together to widely cover the achievements, cultural characteristics, and development strategies of the SCO countries.
"The main goal of media integration is to strengthen trust and mutual understanding between countries by providing objective and open information," concluded the head of BelTA.
As a reminder, the first Forum of Media and Think Tanks of the SCO Member States is being held in Bishkek today. The event is jointly organized by the Kyrgyz National News Agency "Kabar" and the Chinese news agency "Xinhua."
