Bishkek, May 25, 2026 /Kabar/. Large-scale modernization of the power grid is underway in Bishkek as part of preparations for the autumn-winter period of 2026-2027..

According to the Ministry of Energy, all construction, installation and repair works planned by the Bishkek Electric Grid Enterprise will be fully completed by November of this year.

In 2026, 38 additional transformers and 278 reinforced concrete poles will be installed throughout the city. The outdated cabinets of 31 complete transformer substations (TSS) will be replaced with modern models. Also, all 2,248 transformers on the company's balance sheet will undergo technical inspection and repair by the end of the year.

Transformer modernization plan for electric stations:

Eastern: repair of 113 transformers and installation of 25 new ones;

Northern: repair of 85 transformers and installation of 10 new ones;

Western: repair of 100 transformers and installation of 3 new ones.

"Thanks to these works, it is expected to reduce electricity losses in the city by up to 80% and improve the quality of electricity supply by up to 90%. This will help reduce overloads in the winter and attract new subscribers," the report says.
