Bishkek, July 2, 2026. /Kabar/. The construction of a new tunnel has begun at the 400th kilometer of the Bishkek-Osh highway, and the work is being carried out according to plan. Minister of Transport and Communications Talant Soltobaev shares in his social media.

According to him, a 742-meter-long two-lane tunnel will be built to ensure the safety of passengers, since the risk of snow and rock avalanches is high on this section.

"According to the project, it is planned to install rockfall protection structures at kilometer 409 and landslide-resistant retaining walls at kilometer 451. As of today, the installation of protective nets on the slopes of the Bishkek portal has been completed by 90%, and the installation of a concrete production plant for construction has been completed. The construction of an office and laboratory for consulting engineers is also being completed," the report says.

The minister noted that the materials necessary for the construction of the tunnel are being brought from Japan in stages. The project is scheduled for completion in 2028.

It should be noted that the tunnel is a joint project of the Ministry of Transport and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
