Bishkek to have Chyngyz Aitmatov Cultural Center

Bishkek, July 22, 2026 /Kabar/. Preparations have begun in Kyrgyzstan for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding writer Chyngyz Aitmatov, which will be celebrated in 2028. Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy Mirbek Mambetaliev informs at the meeting of the organizing committee for the anniversary events.

According to the minister, in accordance with the presidential decree, 2028 is planned to be declared the Year of Chyngyz Aitmatov in Kyrgyzstan, and government agencies have been tasked with a number of tasks to prepare for the anniversary events.

"The plan of events includes 25 points." The organizing committee also made additional proposals.

One of the key initiatives is the construction of an Aitmatov complex in Bishkek by 2028. The Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, the Ministry of Construction, and the Bishkek City Hall are responsible for implementing the project. The new complex will become one of the largest cultural centers in the country.

Construction of the "Aitmatov World" complex in Sheker village, Aitmatov district, Talas region, to complete soon.

Furthermore, work is currently underway on a feature film dedicated to the life and work of the great writer. The film's premiere is scheduled for the fall of this year.

Number of scientific, cultural, creative, and international events dedicated to the popularization of Aitmatov's legacy are also planned for 2028.

At today's meeting, it was proposed to hold the final celebratory event at the Bishkek Arena stadium," the minister noted.
