Bishkek, Aug 4, 2026. /Kabar/. The Issyk-Kul region is becoming not only a tourist destination but also a center for major international events. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev announced at Kabar podcast.
The head of the Cabinet noted that work on upgrading the bypass road around Issyk-Kul is currently being carried out in stages. The section from Korumdu to Balbay Baatyr villages has already been completed, and construction on the section from Balbay Baatyr to Karakol city will begin soon. Following this, the Karakol-Barskoon and Barskoon-Balykchy routes will be upgraded. The road around the lake is expected to be fully completed within two to three years.
Furthermore, Kasymaliev announced that a project to build a railway to Cholpon-Ata is also being considered.
According to him, the new bypass roads will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the future.
