Bishkek, Sept. 8, 2026 /Kabar/. The Council meeting on Food Security and Nutrition of Kyrgyzstan was held under the chairmanship of Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, the heads of relevant government agencies and departments participated in the meeting. The meeting focused on the current state of food security, the balances of nine socially important food products for 2026, and plans for 2027.
In addition, they discussed issues related to internal and external risks, the import of certain goods, price stabilization, the supply of fuel and lubricants and logistics, the state reserve, public nutrition, and the activities of the Council's research institute.
Specific and well-founded proposals were made during the meeting. Following the Council's adoption of the relevant decisions, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Erlist Akunbekov emphasized that the main objective is to ensure that the decisions made remain only on paper and instructed the heads of the relevant government agencies to ensure their practical implementation.
At the meeting of the Council on Food Security and Nutrition, the following tasks were identified and instructions given:
- Develop rapid response protocols for nine socially significant food products;
- Strengthen efforts to regulate and develop the meat market;
- Transition work on geographic agro-industrial zones to the practical stage;
- Organize autumn fieldwork and preparation for the 2027 spring fieldwork based on a unified plan;
- Develop a program for fruit and vegetable processing for 2027–2031, including specific production projects;
- Prepare a separate systemic proposal for the development of citrus growing;
- Update the regulatory framework for food security and clarify physiological consumption standards;
- Transform efforts to raise farmers' and consumers' awareness of safe and healthy nutrition into a systemic approach;
- Ensure that the Council's Research Institute for Food Security and Nutrition operates independently and serves as a permanent analytical center;
- Ensure strict adherence to executive discipline.
Erlist Akunbekov warned that if the established deadlines for implementing instructions are not met or if they are merely carried out formally, the personal liability of the executives responsible for their implementation will be considered.
"Food security is not a matter for a single ministry or agency. It is the sustainability of the entire system, from production to storage, processing, logistics, state reserves, trade, pricing, and public nutrition. Therefore, I demand clear coordination, prompt decision-making, and measurable results from all government agencies. The decisions made by the Council today and these instructions must be effectively implemented within the established timeframes," Erlist Akunbekov concluded.
