Chinese doctors perform over 1,500 free surgeries in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, May 28, 2026. /Kabar/. The official closing ceremony of the humanitarian ophthalmological mission of Chinese specialists, implemented as part of the "Express Health - Bright Journey" project, was held at the Bishkek National Hospital.

According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, from May 18 to 26, 2026, leading ophthalmologists from the People's Republic of China performed free cataract surgeries on patients in Bishkek.

This project has been implemented in Kyrgyzstan since 2023 at the National Hospital and the Osh Interregional United Hospital. Its aim is to provide highly qualified ophthalmological care to the population, prevent blindness, and develop humanitarian cooperation in healthcare.

Over these years, more than 1,500 Kyrgyz citizens have received free eye surgery. The event was attended by Bakytbek Kadyraliev, Deputy Minister of Health, Shen Yueyue, Vice Chairman of the 14th National Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation, Liu Jiangping, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Kyrgyz Republic, the management and staff of the National Hospital, and representatives of the Chinese delegation.

During the event, the parties noted the high level of Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation in healthcare and emphasized the importance of humanitarian projects aimed at increasing access to specialized medical care for the population. Speaking at the ceremony, Bakytbek Kadyraliev expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for its consistent support of Kyrgyzstan's healthcare system.

"This project is of great social significance for our citizens. Thanks to the professionalism of Chinese specialists, patients were able to undergo highly qualified surgical treatment and restore their quality of life. Such initiatives are a shining example of humanitarian cooperation and the strengthening of friendship between the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of China," he noted.

During the visit, the Chinese delegation also met with Kyrgyz patients who underwent surgical treatment during the ophthalmology mission.

The ministry notes that cooperation with China in healthcare is consistently developing in various areas, including the modernization of medical infrastructure, the supply of modern equipment, medical personnel training, telemedicine, traditional medicine, and the implementation of joint humanitarian projects.
