Bishkek, Oct. 10, 2025. /Kabar/. Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev opened the ceremony of construction of concrete canvas plant for the water sector. According to the ministry, this project is part of the state strategy to strengthen the country's water and food security. Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers in partnership with United Concrete Canvas international company implement the €20 million investment project.
Thanks to the construction of the new plant, Kyrgyzstan will be able to produce this material domestically, reducing dependence on imports, creating jobs, and opening up new export opportunities. The country has more than 30,000 kilometers of canals, 19,000 of which are unpaved, and 11,000 require major repairs. We have set ourselves the ambitious goal of upgrading the system, reducing water losses, and bringing nearly 37,000 hectares of new irrigated land into cultivation, noted Bakyt Torobaev.
Under the current state irrigation development program, 36,900 hectares of new irrigated land are planned for development by 2030. As of 2025, the irrigated area is approximately 1,023,000 hectares, of which a significant portion requires repair and modernization.
Design capacity and operating mode:
- First line - 7 million m² per year, commissioning - 2027.
- Second line - within 5 years of the first line's commissioning, also 7 million m² per year.
- At full capacity, output distribution: 60% for Kyrgyzstan's needs, 40% for export.
Concrete canvas plant project is in line with the state irrigation development program is a national priority. The produced material will reduce water loss, extend the service life of canals up to 50-100 years, accelerate the construction of new irrigation systems, provide farmers with stable water supply, and strengthen the country's food security, minister emphasized.
Furthermore, the launch of the plant will create at least 50 jobs, 90% of which will be Kyrgyz citizens.
