Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2026. /Kabar/. Potato planting has begun in Aravan district of Osh oblast, where spring has come early in Kyrgyzstan, Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry reports.

According to the information, the potatoes that have been planted now will ripen in May and be ready for sale. The farmer, who grows potatoes on 90 acres of land, plans to harvest more than 20 tons in May. If the "Riviera" potato variety is planted, it will ripen early. As a result, it will be possible to harvest 2-3 times in one season.

Regional farmers prepare their fields in the fall, enrich the soil, and provide them with medicines, fertilizers and vitamins.

Ministry of Agriculture is also actively supporting this work, providing farmers with equipment and medicines needed for the fields.

"Potatoes are starting to be exported not only to the domestic market in Kyrgyzstan, but also to neighboring countries, bringing good economic income. Regional farmers are also contributing economically by employing local residents, paying them 1,500 soms per day," the report says.
