Fuel arrives in Kyrgyzstan from China by rail

Bishkek, Oct. 28, 2026. /Kabar/. Today, October 28, the first shipments of fuel from China began arriving in Kyrgyzstan via railway. Kanatbek Eshatov, President of the Association of Oil Traders told Kabar during meeting dedicated to ensuring Kyrgyzstan's energy stability.

According to him, while fuel was previously imported into Kyrgyzstan primarily from Russia, it is now also being supplied from countries such as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Belarus, and Turkiye.

"In August, during the summer our representatives, accompanied by government officials, visited China and signed agreements with major Chinese companies there. Initially, fuel was being transported by road. However, today, October 28, the first shipments from China have begun entering Kyrgyzstan by rail," he stated.

According to Eshatov, the situation regarding diesel fuel in Kyrgyzstan is currently stable. However, there is a slight shortage of gasoline, making it impossible to purchase the desired quantities. Consequently, the country is seeking various fuel-supplying nations and working to increase supply volumes.

"The situation with diesel fuel in Kyrgyzstan is currently stable. We are experiencing a slight shortage of gasoline; we are unable to purchase the volumes we would like. We aim to increase our domestic reserves, ideally, we would like to build up a 2 to 3-month supply of gasoline," said the president of the association.

According to his data, daily consumption in Kyrgyzstan amounts to 1,200 tons of gasoline and an equivalent volume of diesel fuel. Total daily domestic consumption is approximately 2,500 to 3,000 tons.

Furthermore, repair and renovation work is underway at Kyrgyzstan's two major fuel refineries, the facilities located in Jalal-Abad and Kara-Balta. Modernization efforts, including the installation of state-of-the-art equipment, are currently in progress at these plants. "Repair and maintenance work is currently underway at two refineries. Modernization is taking place, and new, state-of-the-art equipment is being installed. Once they become operational next year, the situation regarding fuel in Kyrgyzstan should change. That is what we are aiming for," noted Kanatbek Eshatov.
