Bishkek, July 21, 2026. /Kabar/. The day before, Minister of Health Damir Osmonov met with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
According to the department, the meeting took place within the framework of the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Road Safety in New York.
The minister thanked WHO for its long-term support to Kyrgyzstan and noted his interest in further strengthening cooperation.
During the meeting, he outlined the main priority areas of cooperation, including the development of a system of medical assistance to victims of road accidents, strengthening the resilience of the health system, developing primary health care, digitizing the health sector, and improving pediatric oncology services.
The minister paid special attention to the issue of including a specialized medical institution of Kyrgyzstan in the WHO Global Platform for Combating Childhood Cancer, and also provided information on ongoing projects to digitize the health sector, including the introduction of telemedicine.
The WHO Director-General confirmed that the organization is ready to continue supporting Kyrgyzstan in strengthening its health system, including the development of primary health care. Dr. Tedros, Director-General of Pediatric Oncology, expressed his support for Kyrgyzstan's initiative to join the WHO Global Platform for Combating Childhood Cancer and noted that he is ready to provide the necessary assistance in this direction. In the field of digital health, the ministry announced that it will liaise with the relevant WHO coordinator to develop further cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, Damir Osmonov invited WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to visit Kyrgyzstan to learn with the reforms being carried out in the country's healthcare sector.
