Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2026 /Kabar/. Large-scale modernization of the Issyk-Kul oblast's power grid will be carried out in 2026, the Ministry of Energy press service reported.

According to the ministry, 50 km of outdated electrical wires in the region will be replaced with modern, safe, and weather-resistant self-supporting insulated wires (SIW) in 2026.

In addition, the 80 km-long 110 kV Tamga-Przhevalsk overhead power line will be completely renovated. This line supplies power to Jeti-Oguz and Ak-Suu districts, as well as Karakol city.

As part of the digitalization of the energy sector, all consumers in the Issyk-Kul region will be 100 percent equipped with smart meters by 2026.

Important modernization work will also be carried out at the Przhevalsk substation. Specifically, the 25 MVA transformer will be replaced with a 40 MVA transformer, increasing the substation's overall capacity.

As part of the modernization program, five modern reclosers will be installed in the Issyk-Kul oblast. A recloser is an automatic circuit breaker used in 6-35 kV distribution networks that protects lines from faulty currents and automatically restores power during temporary interruptions. Fourteen 6-10/0.4 kV transformer substations will also be installed throughout the region.

"All ongoing and planned activities are aimed at providing residents of the Issyk-Kul oblast with a stable, safe, and high-quality electricity supply," the statement says.
