Bishkek, Feb. 11, 2026 /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev announced that farmers who switch to drip and sprinkler irrigation will be provided with preferential loans at 2 percent interest. He made this statement while answering questions from members of parliament at Jogorku Kenesh.
According to the minister, loans for this purpose will be issued within the next month.
Bakyt Torobaev also emphasized the need for Issyk-Kul region to fully switch to drip irrigation.
"If we switch to drip irrigation, more water will flow into Issyk-Kul lake." "If we use all the water for agriculture, it might not reach Issyk-Kul lake. Therefore, we aim to completely convert the Issyk-Kul region to drip and sprinkler irrigation," the minister noted.
