Bishkek, Sept. 30, 2026 /Kabar/. On September 29, a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the "Umut Uyu" municipal residential care facility for the elderly and persons with disabilities as part of a familiarization visit to Kyrgyzstan.
According to the Bishkek Mayor’s Office, the visit took place as part of JICA's study of the Kyrgyz Republic's social sector, specifically issues related to the care and support of the elderly. The primary objective of the visit was to gain insight into the existing social service system for elderly citizens and the practical organization of care. During the visit, the JICA delegation familiarized itself with the operations of "Umut Uyu," the system for delivering social and medical services, the organization of care for the elderly and persons with disabilities, and the facility's staffing arrangements.
Delegation members were briefed on the facility's core activities and the specifics of how care and social services are organized for its residents.
Discussions also covered current issues, existing challenges, and future prospects for the development of social services for the elderly.
Following the visit, the JICA delegation acknowledged the value of the information gathered. Agency representatives stated that the findings and information obtained during the visit would be analyzed, and potential avenues for cooperation in the field of social services for the elderly would be considered.
