Issyk-Kul, Aug. 30, 2026 /Kabar/. The World Nomad Games are a unique international event uniting peoples from different countries around the rich heritage of nomadic civilization. Mederbek Shermetaliev, director of the Kabar news agency told at the 35th meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS State news agencies.
According to him, the Nomadic Games have become a symbol of the preservation of national traditions and cultural characteristics, strengthening friendship between peoples, and popularizing traditional sports.
"The idea of holding the World Nomad Games originated in Kyrgyzstan. The first Games were held in 2014 on the shores of Issyk-Kul lake." Their main goal was to revive and popularize traditional sports, culture, and the spiritual heritage of nomadic peoples.
Since then, the World Nomad Games have been held in several countries and have grown into a major international event. This year, the Nomad Games are returning to Kyrgyzstan, the country where the idea for this project originated.
The 6th World Nomad Games will be held in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 6. Around 3,000 athletes from around 100 countries are expected to participate. Representatives from Asia, Europe, America, Africa, and other regions will take part in the competitions," said Shermetaliev.
The Games program includes three main areas: ethnosports, culture, and science and traditional knowledge. Guests will be able to learn about national sports, traditions, music, crafts, national cuisine, and the everyday lives of various peoples.
"A special place in the program is given to traditional equestrian games and national sports. These include kok-boru, alysh, ordo, various types of national wrestling, and other competitions.
The World Nomad Games go beyond a typical sporting event and become a large-scale international forum of cultures. People speaking different languages, representing diverse cultures and traditions, meet on one platform. At the same time, they are united by common values: respect for history, nature, family, human dignity, and fair competition," he emphasized.
