Bishkek, July 20, 2026. /Kabar/. Greco-Roman wrestler Zholaman Sharshenbekov won a gold medal at the Polyak Imre, Varga Janos & Kozma Istvan Memorial international ranking tournament, which is taking place in Budapest, Hungary, State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports reports.
Sharshenbekov competed in the 60-kilogram weight class. In his first bout, the Kyrgyzstani wrestler defeated American Dalton Roberts by pinfall, 4-0.
In the round of 16, Zholaman Sharshenbekov confidently defeated Azerbaijani wrestler Elmir Aliyev 10-0. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Egyptian Mahmoud Saad 9-0, and in the semifinals, he defeated Uzbekistan's Alisher Ganiev 9-2, securing his place in the final.
In the gold medal decider, the Kyrgyzstani was scheduled to face Kazakhstan's Yernur Fidakhmetov. However, due to an injury to his opponent, the final bout was cancelled. Following the competition, Zholaman Sharshenbekov was declared the winner of the tournament and took home the gold medal.
