Bishkek, Sept. 15, 2026. /Kabar/. On the eve of the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Meder Abakirov and UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix discussed Kyrgyzstan's upcoming membership in the UN Security Council for 2027–2028 and cooperation in maintaining international peace and security.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed strengthening preventive diplomacy, developing realistic mandates for peacekeeping missions, ensuring the safety of UN personnel, protecting civilians, and improving the effectiveness and sustainability of peacekeeping operations.
Particular attention was paid to the participation of Kyrgyz military personnel in UN peacekeeping missions and ensuring the safety of peacekeeping personnel.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in maintaining international peace and security, as well as to implement Kyrgyzstan's priorities for its upcoming membership in the UN Security Council.
