Kyrgyzstan, EU discuss water management projects worth €86 mln

Bishkek, July 17, 2026. /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Erlist Akunbekov met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Kyrgyzstan, Rémi Duflo.

During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation in modernizing irrigation and water management infrastructure, implementing modern water-saving technologies and digital solutions in the agricultural sector, and developing organic farming and climate-resilient agriculture.

The ministry noted that several major water infrastructure modernization projects, totaling over €86 million, are currently being implemented in Kyrgyzstan with the support of the EU, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and other European financial institutions.

Meeting participants paid special attention to the implementation of the €17 million grant agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the EU, signed last year. The document aims to implement comprehensive reforms in the country's water management sector.

Furthermore, the parties discussed expanding access for Kyrgyz agricultural products to the European Union market.
