Bishkek, Oct. 7, 2026 /Kabar/. As part of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) regional dialogue with countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Akyl Toktobaev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision met with Thomas Eriksson, GCF Regional Director.
According to the ministry, the parties discussed expanding Kyrgyzstan's access to climate finance and developing a national portfolio of climate projects.
Particular attention was paid to the activities of nationally accredited organizations ARIS and Eldik Bank OJSC as well as the preparations of the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and ABank for GCF accreditation.
It is noted that Kyrgyzstan's mountain climate agenda was also discussed separately, including the need to account for the vulnerability of mountain ecosystems and communities when shaping the climate project portfolio. The prospects for the Issyk-Kul project and the initiative to establish a multi-partner trust fund for its preservation were also reviewed.
The parties also discussed the development of the Readiness program. Plans are in place to prepare approximately six projects in Kyrgyzstan jointly with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in 2027.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening the partnership and transitioning from project preparation to concrete financial solutions and the practical implementation of climate investments, taking into account the priorities of Kyrgyzstan’s mountain agenda.
