Kyrgyzstan, Japan discuss expanding interparliamentary relations

Bishkek, Feb. 24, 2026 /Kabar/. On February 24, Speaker of the Parliament Marlen Mamataliev received Japanese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Hirano Ryuichi, the press service of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the development of political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties between Kyrgyzstan and Japan, including expanding interparliamentary relations. Marlen Mamataliev congratulated Ambassador Hirano Ryuichi on the successful conduct of the parliamentary elections in Japan and added that the Jogorku Kenesh is interested in actively continuing cooperation with the new parliamentary corps. He also discussed the current state of the partnership between the two countries.

"The Japan International Cooperation Agency is supporting Kyrgyzstan in implementing major infrastructure projects and other initiatives. We must continue to work closely to take Kyrgyz-Japanese relations to a new level. We have great potential here," noted Marlen Mamataliev.

Furthermore, the speaker recalled President Sadyr Zhaparov's successful working visit to Japan last year. He emphasized the importance of the agreements reached during the trip. Speaking about strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, Marlen Mamataliev acknowledged the positive work being done in this area, noting the positive contribution of parliamentary friendship groups. In turn, Hirano Ryuichi thanked Marlen Mamataliev for his warm wishes and the proposals outlined at the meeting, and congratulated him on his election as speaker.

Hirano Ryuichi briefly outlined the plans he intends to implement through the embassy's activities and added that he will pay special attention to developing interparliamentary relations.

At the meeting, the parties reportedly noted the importance of bilateral visits for developing cooperation and discussed organizing an official visit by the speaker of the Japanese Parliament this year.
