Bishkek, Sept. 28, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan plans to receive official World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) status as an African Horse Sickness-free country in 2027, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry reported.
The issue of obtaining this status was discussed at a working meeting between Adilet Sotovaldiev, Director of the Veterinary, Livestock, Pasture and Forage Development Service, and Emmanuel Soubeyran, Director General of OIE, at the 32nd Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe, which was held in Riga.
The parties also discussed further cooperation, strengthening Kyrgyzstan's veterinary system, and providing advisory and expert support.
According to Adilet Sotovaldiev, Kyrgyzstan has already submitted the relevant dossier to the Organization for Animal Health (OIE) for review and assessment.
"The Kyrgyz Republic has historically been free of African horse sickness, and obtaining official status will be an important confirmation of our country's veterinary safety at the international level," he noted.
OIE Director General Emmanuelle Soubeyran expressed her readiness to support Kyrgyzstan, including through the process of obtaining official status for African horse sickness.
The Ministry of Agriculture noted that obtaining the status will confirm the territory's freedom from this disease at the international level, strengthen the trust of international and trading partners, and create additional conditions for the safe international movement and trade of horses and related products in accordance with veterinary requirements.
