Bishkek, Sept. 14, 2026 /Kabar/. The annual meeting of the heads of the border customs authorities of Kyrgyzstan and China took place in Urumqi, China, on September 7-8, according to the State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Representatives of the State Customs Service, the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Urumqi Customs Administration of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China participated in the event.
The Kyrgyz delegation was headed by Nurbek Chegirtkeev, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service, and the Chinese delegation was led by Guo Xuen, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China.
The parties discussed issues of improving the efficiency of customs control, increasing the capacity of checkpoints, and developing foreign trade cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to the operation of the Irkeshtam and Torugart automobile checkpoints. Agreements were reached on establishing new thresholds for crossing point occupancy and daily exchange of information on the number of waiting vehicles.
The Kyrgyz side reported on ongoing work to increase the capacity of the Torugart crossing point and proposed switching the crossing point on the Chinese side to a 24/7 operation mode. The Chinese side expressed its willingness to submit this issue to the competent Chinese authorities for consideration and include it in the agenda of the meeting of the Committee on Cooperation in the Management of Crossing Points between the Kyrgyz Republic and China.
Customs clearance issues related to the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, combating cross-border smuggling, and prompt information exchange were also discussed.
Following the meeting, a Protocol of the Meeting of Heads of Border Customs Authorities for 2026 was signed, formalizing the agreements reached.
The parties agreed to hold the next meeting in 2027 in Kyrgyzstan.
