Bishkek, July 21, 2026 /Kabar/. A new breed of farm animals, the "Kyrgyz White Yak," has been officially registered in Kyrgyzstan, press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry reports.
According to the department, the registration took place on July 20 at the Syrt high-mountain pasture in Issyk-Kul region and marked a significant milestone for domestic livestock farming.
The corresponding order registering the new breed was signed by Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
The creation of the breed marked a significant milestone in the development of livestock breeding and the preservation of the country's national genetic resources.
Tashtanbek Akmatov, Hero of Socialist Labor, renowned breeder, and public figure, made a special contribution to the development of the breed. His many years of work on breeding white yaks formed the basis for the creation of the new breed.
The breeding work was conducted from 2014 to 2026 with the participation of scientists, specialists, breeders, breeding farms, and livestock breeders. The result is a breed distinguished by high productivity and good adaptation to the harsh conditions of the highlands.
Scientific research has confirmed the Kyrgyz White Yak's high performance in live weight, reproduction, and survival rates. Furthermore, the breed produces high-quality white wool and down, which can be used as valuable raw materials for the textile industry.
