Bishkek, Sept. 23, 2026 /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz Republic has signed the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic, Prosecutor General Malik Bekturganov signed the document on behalf of Kyrgyzstan on September 22 at the UN headquarters in New York. The signing took place during a UN treaty event held as part of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The Convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 24, 2024, and represents the first universal international legal instrument under the UN aimed at comprehensively combating cybercrime.
The document provides for the development of international cooperation in preventing and investigating crimes committed using information and communication technologies, the improvement of mechanisms for obtaining and exchanging electronic evidence, and the strengthening of operational collaboration among competent national authorities.
Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Convention creates additional legal avenues for cooperation with foreign states in investigating transnational cybercrimes, preserving and obtaining electronic evidence, and providing international legal assistance in criminal matters.
The next stage will involve the necessary domestic procedures for ratifying the Convention and preparing for its subsequent implementation.
