Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2026. /Kabar/. The nomination of candidates for the upcoming presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan has begun, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Tynchtyk Shainazarov told Kabar.
According to him, the CEC discussed key organizational issues related to the election and approved the election budget and calendar plan.
"Starting today, those wishing to run for president may nominate themselves. To do so, they must establish an election fund and pay an electoral deposit of 1 million soms. After that, they can submit the required documents," Shainazarov said.
Under Kyrgyzstan's election legislation, a presidential candidate must be at least 35 years old, be a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic and have permanently resided in the country for at least 15 years. Candidates must also meet the requirements concerning proficiency in the state language and criminal record.
Shainazarov also noted that the election deposit of 1 million soms goes to the state budget and is not returned to the candidate, either if they withdraw from the election for any reason or if they win the election.
