As part of a working visit to the state of California (USA), Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Minister of Agriculture Erlis Akunbekov familiarized himself with the activities of the Foundation Plant Services (FPS) division of the University of California, Davis, one of the world's leading agricultural research centers.
The press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry reported that FPS representative Maher presented methods for virus treatment of planting material, plant disease diagnosis, genetic identity verification, and certification in accordance with international phytosanitary requirements.
Modern approaches to the preparation of initial clean planting material and its quarantine management were also presented.
FPS's experience can be used to develop a system for producing certified, disease-free planting material in Kyrgyzstan, strengthen domestic nurseries, and implement international phytosanitary standards.
