Bishkek, Sept. 29, 2026. /Kabar/. Restrictions on the use of plastic bags will go into effect throughout Kyrgyzstan starting in 2027, Nursultan Akmatov, head of the department at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision told on radio.
According to him, the law restricting the use of plastic bags was adopted in 2023. Issyk-Kul Oblast was designated as the pilot region for implementing the law.
"We have been working on this for three years. In Issyk-Kul Oblast, good results have been achieved: the free distribution of plastic bags has been banned, and a gradual transition to paper bags is underway. "Now, starting in 2027, this law will come into effect throughout the republic," he noted.
The types of bags permitted for use have already been determined. The ministry representative emphasized that laboratory testing will be conducted to verify the compliance of the permitted products with established standards.
"Work is underway to purchase equipment for laboratory analysis. We need to preliminarily examine the bags and confirm their compliance with the established requirements," Akmatov said.
