Bishkek, Aug. 25, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan over the next 3-4 years plans to build over 400 agricultural processing plants in 40 districts of the country. First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Ilich Marsbek uulu told in his interview to Birinchi Radio.
According to him, the process of consolidation in agriculture will be achieved by uniting farmers around processing plants.
"One of the paths to developing the agricultural sector is consolidation. We propose that farmers unite not simply to create cooperatives, but around their common interests." "We are focusing primarily on agricultural processing and storage enterprises, around which we will unite farmers," he said.
He noted that 65 agricultural cooperatives were established across the republic in 2026.
Ilich Marsbek uulu added that although a number of programs to develop cooperatives had been implemented previously, the process of consolidation in agriculture had not been adequate.
"Government support, such as providing preferential loans and land to cooperatives, sometimes leads to consolidation solely for the sake of receiving these benefits. Therefore, we are proposing a different approach to cooperation," the First Deputy Minister noted.
He cited the work of sugar factories as an example: in the spring, the factories provide farmers with seeds and in the fall, they purchase the harvested crop.
"This system unites the interests of the enterprise and the farmer. We intend to create the conditions for farmers to unite around processing enterprises," he concluded.
