Bishkek, Oct. 17, 2025 /Kabar/. The origins of Kyrgyz theater began in 1926, explained Asylbek Ozubekov, director of the Toktobolot Abdymomunov Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theater and People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to him, directors from Russia arrived in the country and brought together talented young Kyrgyz performers, 100 years ago the first theater studio was organized in Kyrgyzstan.
In 1927, the first play Kaigyluu Kakei was staged, and theater began to develop.
First, the Toktobolot Abdymomunov Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theater was established, and later, other theaters began to open. We can even declare next year, 2026, the Year of Theater. The Ministry of Culture is currently working on this issue for the president's consideration. We must celebrate this anniversary in a special, meaningful, and festive way, Ozubekov explained.
