Bishkek, Aug. 12, 2026 /Kabar/. Modernization of hydroelectric units No. 1 and No. 2 at the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) continues. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2026, according to the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the ministry, once all work is completed, the plant's installed capacity will increase from 198 to 216 MW, an increase of 18 MW.
Reconstruction of the Uch-Kurgan HPP began in 2024. As part of the project, hydroelectric unit No. 4 has already been completely replaced, increasing its capacity by 9 MW. The modernization of hydroelectric unit No. 3 has also been completed, increasing its capacity by another 9 MW.
Thus, following the upgrade of units No. 1 and No. 2, all four hydroelectric units at the Uch-Kurgan HPP will be modernized.
The modernization will improve the plant's reliability and efficiency, upgrade outdated equipment, and extend its service life.
For reference: The Uch-Kurgan HPP is located in the Jalal-Abad Region on the Naryn River. The plant was commissioned in 1961–1962. In more than 60 years of operation, the current reconstruction marks the first major upgrade of the plant's main equipment.
