Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye discuss green energy development and construction of new HPPs

Bishkek, Dec. 12, 2025. /Kabar/. During working visit to Istanbul on December 9, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev met with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.

According to the ministry, bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, the implementation of major joint projects, and other relevant areas of collaboration were discussed during the meeting.

Particular attention was paid to the "Central Asia – Azerbaijan (Caspian Sea) Green Energy Corridor" project, planned for implementation between member states of the Organization of Turkic States. The initiative to establish a regional center for technology and green initiatives in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the Suusamyr-Kokomeren and Kazarman hydroelectric power plant cascade projects with a total installed capacity of 1,305 MW and an annual output of 3.317 billion kWh, were also discussed.

Ibraev emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic has significant potential in renewable energy sources such as hydropower, solar, wind, and bioenergy. He also noted the high quality of Kyrgyz coal and proposed exploring opportunities for cooperation with Turkey in the coal industry.

In response, Minister Alparslan Bayraktar noted that he had not previously been aware of Kyrgyzstan's high-quality coal reserves and expressed his willingness to consider cooperation in this area, provided favorable logistics and economic feasibility were met.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed mutual gratitude for their support and confirmed their interest in further deepening their cooperation.
