Issyk-Kul, Sept. 3, 2026 /Kabar/. Today, September 3, the sambo competition was held at the Gazprom Sports and Recreation Complex as part of the VI World Nomad Games.
Azamat Kazakbaev, head coach of the Kyrgyz national team, told Kabar that approximately 50 athletes from 20 countries participated in the competition. The competition was held in three weight categories: 64 kg, 79 kg, and over 98 kg.
Kyrgyzstan was represented by three athletes. In the 64 kg category, Kairat Zhusup uulu competed, losing to an athlete from Iran in his first bout and withdrawing from the competition.
In the over 98 kg category, Bekbolot Toktogonov won his first bout, but lost his second and withdrew.
"Felix Ulanbekov achieved his greatest success in the 79 kg weight class. He defeated representatives from Iran, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, and in the final, he defeated an athlete from Belarus, winning the championship," the coach said.
