Bishkek, 04.08.26. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan's debt to China has decreased significantly, Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration told Kabar podcast.
According to him, the country's external debt to China once reached $1.9 billion, but today this figure has decreased to $1.4 billion.
"Borrowings should not exceed 50% from a single source. Currently, the debt to China accounts for just over 20% of the total external debt. The rest comes from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, which are long-term concessional loans, as well as the International Monetary Fund and other lenders with insignificant amounts," the chairman said.
Adylbek Kasymaliev also emphasized that, according to law, the public debt to GDP ratio should not exceed 60%. However, at the direction of President Sadyr Zhaparov, a stricter threshold has been established, no more than 50%.
