Ministry of Finance: SMEs drive economic growth in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Dec. 19, 2025. /Kabar/. Support and development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) remains key priority of Kyrgyzstan's state economic policy, Deputy Finance Minister Nurbek Akzholov at forum on the results of the "Emergency Support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises" project.

According to him, SMEs play a crucial role in providing employment, generating income, and promoting regional economic stability. "Today, SMEs are one of the main drivers of economic growth and social stability," he noted.

Nurbek Akzholov emphasized that $150 million funds from the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank were attracted to the country as part of the emergency support project for SMEs. The funding was provided over four-year period, during which time approximately 20,000 entrepreneurs across the country received support. The project helped preserve thousands of jobs in the post-pandemic period and had significant social impact: approximately 10,000 beneficiaries were women entrepreneurs. All project targets were not only met but exceeded, demonstrating its high effectiveness.

As the Deputy Minister noted, the project received high final evaluations from international financial institutions and was completed ahead of schedule, due to active development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.
