Bishkek, Aug. 12, 2026. /Kabar/. According to preliminary estimates, the total number of pensioners in Kyrgyzstan will approach 830,000 as of October 1.

According to the Social Fund representative Zhenishbek Mukambetov, the number of pension recipients has been steadily growing in recent years. For example, country in 2005 had approximately 530,000 pensioners, their number is now approaching 830,000. In other words, over 20 years, the number of pensioners has increased by almost 300,000.

"The number of pension recipients is growing annually. This also indicates an increase in life expectancy. The overwhelming majority of pension recipients are old-age pensioners. "Furthermore, there are citizens receiving disability and survivor's pensions," Mukambetov said.

According to the Social Fund, the number of citizens receiving pensions exceeding 50,000 soms in the country exceeds 1,500. Currently, the maximum pension is over 130,000 soms. Such high pensions are calculated according to the insurance principle: the more insurance contributions a citizen has paid during their working life, the higher their pension. However, under the new indexation, the increase for citizens with high pensions will not exceed 10,000 soms.
