Moscow, Sept. 21, 2026 /Kabar/. The Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) intends to intensify the fight against disinformation and foster a resilient media community amidst digital transformation. This was announced by participants at a media forum marking the organization's 65th anniversary, currently taking place in Moscow.
More than 70 representatives from 30 countries are participating in the event.
Speaking at the forum's opening, OANA President and TASS Director General Andrey Kondrashov urged member news agencies to build trust and enhance both the responsibility and quality of information serving the public interest.
Noting the rapid changes in the modern media landscape, Kondrashov emphasized that OANA members share a common goal: preserving a "healthy information space" through ongoing cooperation and a commitment to the principles of truthful journalism.
Kondrashov also expressed hope that forum participants would actively collaborate to safeguard reliable information at a qualitatively new level.
Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary to the Russian President, read out a welcoming address from President Vladimir Putin to the forum participants.
"The organization makes a significant contribution to the development of journalism and mass media and is rightfully considered one of the largest and most influential regional media associations," the message stated.
The Russian president expressed hope that the meeting in Moscow would help strengthen professional and personal ties and unite the media community around the values of high-quality, objective, and professional journalism. Speaking at the forum's opening, Dmitry Peskov noted that global news agencies today face unprecedented challenges stemming from both the rapid pace of technological development and the transformation of the global economy, politics, and the system of international relations.
OANA (Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies) was established in 1961 on the initiative of UNESCO. The organization brings together more than 40 leading news agencies from the Asia-Pacific region. TASS holds the OANA chairmanship for the 2025–2028 term.
