Bishkek, May 20, 2026 /Kabar/. The High-Level Urban Dialogue of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held on 19 May 2026 in Baku on the sidelines of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The event brought together Ministers and high-level officials responsible for urban planning and housing from the Member States and Observers of the OTS to discuss the future of sustainable urban development within the Turkic World.
During his address, Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev emphasized the importance of collaboration in urban planning for addressing complex challenges that cities face, from rapid population growth and urban sprawl to environmental degradation and social inequalities. Secretary General pointed out that sustainable urbanization, as an important area of cooperation, is on the agenda of OTS.
The Heads of Delegation underlined the essential role of housing and sustainable urbanization and exchanged their ideas on future regional collaborations and partnerships by adapting the cities to climate change and risk reduction, opportunities for funding and financing mechanisms for joint urban renewal projects.
The session ended with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the fields of Urban and Spatial Planning and Sustainable Urban Development. This MoU establishes a formal technical framework to foster resilient, digitally advanced, and healthy cities while strictly preserving the unique national architectural traditions and cultural heritage of the Member States.
