Bishkek, March 30, 2026 /Kabar/. Today, March 30, Speaker of Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) Marlen Mamataliev received a delegation led by Kim Seok-ki, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs and Unification of the National Assembly of Korea.
According to Kyrgyz Parliament, during the meeting, they discuss the need to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy to expand political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties between the two countries. In addition, issues related to developing cooperation at the level of relevant committees were discussed.
Marlen Mamataliev emphasized the dynamic nature of cooperation in recent years between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Korea across all areas. "I am confident that this meeting will contribute to deepening the existing level of relations and will provide a platform for discussing proposals aimed at developing partnership, as parliamentary diplomacy is the primary tool for strengthening interstate ties. Jogorku Kenesh, prioritizing cooperation with the Republic of Korea, has created a friendship group consisting of 22 deputies," he said.
The speaker also touched on issues of cooperation within international forums and noted the successful holding of meetings in the "Central Asia + Korea" format.
At the same time, Marlen Mamataliev noted that strengthening trade and economic ties is a requirement of the times, adding that Kyrgyzstan places particular emphasis on ecology, environmental protection, and climate change management. "We are interested in exchanging experiences and developing cooperation with the Republic of Korea in these areas." In particular, we invite you to actively participate in the 2nd Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25," the Speaker said.
In turn, Kim Seok-gi emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is a priority during this visit to Central Asia, adding that special attention is being paid to developing interparliamentary ties.
"Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992, close cooperation has been established in all areas. To successfully implement the agreements reached, it is necessary to further deepen interaction between our parliaments, particularly between relevant committees. This is the main goal of my visit," he said.
Kim Seok-gi also noted that the opening of direct flights will facilitate contacts between citizens, adding that citizens of the Republic of Korea are interested in Kyrgyzstan's picturesque natural beauty, which necessitates developing cooperation in tourism.
The meeting was attended by Elvira Surabaldieva, Chair of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security, and Migration; Nurbek Sydygaliev, head of the Ishenim parliamentary group; Erkinbek Isenaliev, head of the parliamentary friendship group for cooperation with the Republic of Korea; his deputy Rakhat Zhunushbaeva; and group member Saltanat Amanova.
