Bishkek, July 31, 2026. /Kabar/. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon proposed the construction of a large joint oil refinery in the region at informal consultative meeting of Central Asian states's leaders and Azerbaijan in Cholpon-Ata.
He noted that this initiative had been raised at previous meetings. The president noted that changes in global and regional energy markets directly affect the countries of Central Asia, noting that ensuring energy security is one of the key factors for sustainable development.
"I propose to entrust the relevant state departments with jointly developing the possibility of building a large oil refinery in the region using modern technologies. When implementing the project, the domestic needs of the countries in the region for oil products should be taken into account, first of all," he said.
