Bishkek, Aug. 4, 2026 /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov signed the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Geological Parks in Kyrgyz Republic," adopted by the Zhogorku Kenesh on June 24, 2026.

The law was adopted to create an independent legal framework for the formation of a national network of geological parks (geoparks), ensure the preservation of unique geological sites, and stimulate regional development through sustainable tourism.

The law defines the legal basis for the creation and operation of geoparks in Kyrgyzstan and establishes a regime for the protection and use of geopark territories.

The law grants the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic the authority to approve the procedures for the creation, operation, boundary changes, and liquidation of geoparks, as well as a standard regulation outlining the rules for the organization and operation of geoparks.

The law also stipulates that proposals to establish a geopark may be submitted by state bodies, local governments, scientific organizations, or public associations based on appropriate scientific justification for the uniqueness of the geological features located within the geopark.
