Bishkek, July 21, 2026. /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov will allocate $300 million from his own fund to modernize the energy sector and build new infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan. Energy Minister Altynbek Ryspekov told at press conference on the current situation in the country's energy sector.
According to him, last week, President Sadyr Zhaparov was informed about the problems in the electricity sector and made proposals to solve them.
“The head of state understood the situation and expressed his support for the implementation of important projects in the energy sector. We have made a proposal to build large power lines and substations within the city. These works will require approximately $300 million. The energy system has not been allocated such an amount before. The issue has been resolved through own sources or loans,” the minister said.
He noted that the allocated funds will be used to build new power lines with a voltage of 110–220 kV in Bishkek and other regions of the country, as well as substations.
According to the minister, some large lines and substations in the existing power grid have not been upgraded for many years. Therefore, the construction of new infrastructure is necessary to ensure reliable electricity supply and prepare for future growth in demand.
“The most important thing is that the head of state heard that there was a problem and made an appropriate decision. Currently, appropriate instructions have been given and work on the implementation of the projects will begin,” Ryspekov added.
