Bishkek, Sept. 1, 2026. /Kabar/. The United Nations must maintain its central role in international relations and remain the primary mechanism for coordinating the interests of states. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at SCO+meeting in Bishkek.
According to the Russian leader, the world is undergoing fundamental changes, and the formation of a new, just, and multipolar world order is objective and irreversible.
"Many states are striving to independently determine their own destiny, to resolutely defend their legitimate interests, and to actively participate in international affairs," Putin noted.
He emphasized that the UN's potential is far from exhausted and called for increasing its effectiveness, taking into account the current realities of global politics and economics.
In particular, Putin spoke in favor of expanding representation on the UN Security Council to include countries from the Global South and East.
The Russian president noted that the UN Charter should continue to be a key source of international law.
"The United Nations must undoubtedly retain its functions as the primary mechanism for reconciling interests. This is how it was created from the very beginning—as a mechanism for reconciling interests," he stated.
According to Putin, the UN should not become a tool for advancing the interests of one country or group of states.
The Russian president also noted the role of regional organizations in shaping a multipolar world. He stated that, along with the UN, multilateral structures created and developed in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, fit organically into this architecture.
Speaking about the "SCO+" format, Putin expressed hope that the current meeting would contribute to strengthening friendly ties between the participating states and intensifying broad cooperation in various areas.
"We are open to honest and mutually beneficial cooperation, respect for each other's interests and values, cultures and traditions, based on equality and mutual benefit," Vladimir Putin emphasized.
